nucleic acid(midterm 1), RNA - Coggle Diagram
nucleic acid(midterm 1)
DNA
macromolecule
encodes hereditary info, pass through gens
info specifies amino acid sequences of protein
control expression synthesis of other RNA
during cell division= info from DNA --> new DNA
not during= info from DNA-->RNA-->protein
polymers made of monomers
nucleotides
nitrogen containing base, pentose sugar and1-3 phosfate groups
no phosfate=nucleoside
(these ones have 1)=nucleosides monosphates
base chem form= pyrimide(six membered single ring) or purine(fused double ring structure)
in DNA pentose sugar=deoxyribose
ribose in RNA=one less O atom
when formation of new
pentose sugar in last (nucleotide) of existing chain and phosfate on new(nucleotide)-->condensation
bond called phosphodiester linkage
phosfate of new attached to 5' C atom of its sugar
it attaches to 3' C on last sugar
each nucleotide added to 3'C, nucleic acids grow 5'-to3' direction
because they work enzymatically
RNA
DNA passed down through RNA
