- Movement of matter and energy

-
Environmental factors
Factors that limit growth- limiting factors
-Known as law of limiting factors
-Liebig's law of the minimum: stress caused by one factor outside optimum
Habitat: area particular species is adapted to live in, defined by plant community and physical environment
-
-
Ecological Hierarchy
Species: group of individuals that share certain characteristic
-Distinct from other species
- Cannot interbreed and produce fertile offspring
Population: organisms that make up a reproducing group of species
Biotic community (Biota): groups of populations in natural area
-Biotic factors: Include vegetation, animals, microbes, etc.
System: Consist of components that interact to produce patterns of behavior over a period of time
-Ecosystem: interactive communities and abiotic environment affecting them
-Made up of many systems
-Abiotic Factors: non-living environmental factors
Ecotone: transitional region between ecosystems
-species and characteristics of both ecosystems
