Typographic Poster Rational - Coggle Diagram
Typographic Poster Rational
Process and Outcome
This process really pushed my ability to create type that is interesting and dynamic
For a while I was stuck on how to make the the type interesting and felt like I was subconsciously restricting myself to the shapes and placement of the type
Even though it felt like I was restricted, I found that putting a constraint on the shape and angle of the type forced me to work within those bounds to create something that had to work
Type Aesthetics
Custom flourishes made the design unique
Using a traditional gothic typeface with bright colours changed the energy and helped create something original
Rounded flourishes helped to keep the shape dynamic and not too rigid
Techniques Used
Traditional calligraphy
Path and bezier tools
Brush tool
Brush creator tool
Outline tool
Grids and rulers
Shape blender tool
Feedback
Some experiments were illegible which forced me to be more aware of the shapes I was using and how far I was pushing the characters
Spacing between lines made the words feel too distant from each other like they weren't part of the same element
Initial designs were lacking flow and felt flat and boring
Issues Encountered
Finding a way to make the type interesting was difficult
Some characters needed a balance between interesting and legible that was hard to find
Creating the required shapes digitally so that they were consistent was a problem that took a while to solve - the type was eventually free drawn with a calligraphic pen and then custom shapes created from that with the pen tool
Creating the drop shadow was a process of experimentation with the outline and shape blender tools but was eventually figured out and I was able to make a solid flattened shape
