METHOD
8 pseudopatients called 12 admissions office with same symptoms - hearing voices "empty, hollow, and thud" all didn't wash and shave for two weeks

All gave false names and addresses - psychiatrists gave false jobs as well - everything else truthfull
Once admitted told to record all behaviour plus those involved in two other controlled observations within the study

Significant applications in society - huge improvements in DSM 2 - 3 - had to have hallucinations for more than a month to be Diagnosed Sz - prevents misdiangosis
High variety of hospitals so sample more representative and so can generalise results such as the mistreatment of patients
WEAKNESSES

Not all pseudopatients followed training and standardisation so cannot trust consistency of results taken
