Types of Rest

o On lingual surface, usually canines with prominent cingulum.

o Often on cast restorations (veneer crown, inlay, ¾ crown).

o Between adjacent teeth, extend slightly buccal/labial (not below survey line).
o Provide: support, splinting, resistance to movement, indirect retention.
o Disadvantages: poor esthetics, wedging action.

o Form: rounded triangular, base at marginal ridge.
o Floor spoon-shaped, inclined apically.

o Indications: increase vertical dimension, reduce cusp angle, improve articulation.

• Accurate fit (avoid food collection, maintain relation).

• Prepared recess in tooth/restoration to receive rest (occlusal, cingulum, incisal, lingual).
