The Interquartile Range 
The range of scores that make up the middle 50% of the distribution, or the distance between the 25th & 75th percentile

A good measure of variability serves two purposes:
1) Describes the distribution of scores
a) how much distance to expect between one score & another
b) how much distance to expect between a score & a mean
2) Measures how well an individual score (or group of scores) represents the entire distribution
