PT 2: To what extent do you agree that doubt is central to the pursuit of knowledge? Answer with
reference to two areas of knowledge.
doubt
if doubt clash with trust or curiosity, do we acknowledge doubt only? if so, why?
is it meant to clash since doubt need to be eliminated or do they need to be parallel/ in agreement?
how do you measure it being central?
what makes it central?
is it truly necessary like obligatory or is it just a primary thing in pursuit of knowledge?
if it is central, is it present in every occassion/ AOKs?
in the pursuit of knowledge, is it considered a "success" when we eliminate the doubt?
is there no limitation in doubt when doing research?
do doubt drives the pursuit of knowledge or do we get results from doubt when doubt is central?
could too much doubt hinder the pursuit of knowledge rather than support it?
do we start and end with doubt or is doubt emerged in the middle of knowledge pursuit or is it present here and there(occassionally) implying its necessity?
If it is central, does it make us ignore other things and stick to doubt only
there are undoubted laws and theories as it is proven, how do we align them with the doubt that emerged?
from the definition is it more like a mindset but can doubt be methods/ driving force?
definition
doubt: a feeling of uncertainty or lack or conviction
is there characteristics of doubt for it to be considered doubt? what is it its role in pursuit of knowledge?
is it considered doubt when we start to inquire/ start the process of pursuit of knowledge/ simply saying i doubt something?
what makes we doubt in the first place? lack of evidence? undiscovered knowledge? Contradict phenomenon?
central: at the point or in the area that is in the middle of something // of the greatest importance; principal or essential
pursuit of knowledge: the ongoing, active effort to gain information, understanding, skills, and insights through various means, including study, experience, observation, and interaction.
pursuit of knowledge
do we pursuit only and not acquire the knowledge or something else?
do we pursue knowledge first then doubt or vice versa?
do the pursue of knowledge stop if there is no doubt?
AOKs
Arts
Doubt to the meaning of the arts, the artist, things that inspire/ reflect/ represent the arts/ artistic expression. (could be traditions, social norms, identity, truth) they are pushing to be creative beyond boundaries
they may rely more on inspiration, emotion and expression rather than doubt. so is doubt still central?
doubt whether it is truly arts or just random objects being displayed or anything ?
Art is subjective. How do we confirm/ remove the doubt?
how does doubt work in arts?
RLEs
AI Arts -AI tools create images from text prompts/ coding
doubted its originality and ethical legitimacy // doubted whether it counted as art since one needs to only input words for them to create an output algorithmicly? // the value of art is doubted?
lead to copyright issues, authorship and the value again
where is the pursuit of knowledge?
Banksy's Girl with Ballon shredded itself at Sotheby's auction in 2018 - already bought then shred
doubted if the value is still there since it is kinda tempered after being bought // doubted is it staged or what ? // it looked significanlty different -the art is not fixed
what is the pursuit of knowledge in arts?
the interpretation// the emotions// cultural expression// creating or performing arts// ?
Natural science
doubt to the accuracy of exisiting laws/ theories which could maybe lead to new or more profound theories // the pursuit of knowledge// doubt in lack of evidence or contradicting phenomenon or limitation of current models// pursuit perfection?// doubt to the findings of other scientist b4 being accepted//
lead to truth findings and acceptance// paradigm shift
doubt could be built into methodology where scientists strive to take actions from doubt
scientific method'' falsification// hypothesis// peer review
so when it is the core of methodology, it is kinda central?
RLEs
