Ancient Egypt
Location: On page 8 it said Egyptians live mainly on the banks of the Nile, but also a long the canals extending from it. Over 90% of Egypt consists of desert, Which they called the "Red Land." Every year the Nile would flood leaving behind rich silt on the farmland. (Hart 8)
Government: In the text on page 10 it says that the pharaoh/king was not only the most powerful person at the time but was also considered a god. The name Pharaoh was meant to represent a very powerful king and also called "Great House". The prince was meant to be the next pharaoh and take his fathers place. (Hart 10)
Architecture: On page 20 it says that the first pyramid to ever be built was a royal burial place for King Djoser in 2650 BCE. It had 6 stages so it would represent a stairway that led the king to the sun gods in the sky. The pyramids were meant to represent the mound that had rose out of the ground in the buigining of time and the sun god stood on it. (Hart 20)
Writing: In the text on page 34 it says that Scribes had to be professional writers especially in hieroglyphics. The scribes had to know all 700 different signs because that's why they were called Scribes, nobody else knew the symbols that well. Hieroglyphics were put on monuments, temples, tombs, and religious papayri, they could be written left to right, right to left, or top to bottom, ect. (Hart 34)
Art: On page 54 it states that even in the early times they had fine linen for clothes for everyone in egypt. Eventually the egyptians began to learn more about linen and clothes and so they eventually figured out how to dye them colors. (Hart 54)
Religion: On page 24 it says they worshipped many gods or you can say that they were polytheistic. The king of Egypt was known as the god of Horus. Then the daughter of the king of Egypt was represented as the "Power of the sun to the ripen crops". (Hart 24)
