Ancient China
Location: On page 40 it says "The landscape of the imperial was dotted with wall towns and cities." Enclosed cities were for the government. Drums were heard from a central tower to warn inhabitants. (Cotterell 40)
Government: On page 18 it says " the earliest members of the imperial civil service were recruited by Gaozhou." Gaozhou was destined to run China for 2,000 years. Han Dui introduced servants for Gaozouh. (Cotterell 18)
Art: On page 32 it says " The soft inks and delicate brush strokes used in calligraphy were also applied to painting." The song dynasty used this affect for landscape paintings. Scholars joined together to demonstrate art perfections. (Cotterell 32)
Technology: On page 22 it says " The Chinese emperor developed the different inventions." Many inventions were carried along the silk road. Other Chinese Inventions that made the world a better place were paper money, clockwork, silk, porcelain, fireworks, kites, umbrellas and the wheelbarrow. (Cotterell 22)
Religion: On page 12 it says "Confucius believed that the earth years of the Zhou Dynasty were golden years of social harmony." The king's authority was taken away due to lords fighting each other for power. Confucius believed a stable society would be born by worshiping ancestors.

Commerce (Trade): On page 58 it says "trade flourished under the Mongols." The Mongol emperors ruled from 1279-1368, and permitted merchants to trade freely. They controlled the entire silk road. (Cotterell 58)
Writing: On page 11 it said that "the Shang kings used Oracle bones to consult the ancestral spirits." The people would use an ox bone or tortoiseshell, scorching it until it cracks. They would read the cracks to find the answer, ultimately inscribing it on the bone. (Cotterell 11)
