Mesopotamia
Location: On page 6 it said that ''Mesopotamia is what is today Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Iran. The text says '' According to the Greeks, Mesopotamia means ''between the rivers.'' Also, the text states that ''Mesopotamia included cooler mountain regions in the north and reed-filled wetlands in the Southeast.'' (Steele 6)
Religion: On page 14 the text states '' The Sumerians worshipped many gods and goddesses.'' The text also states that '' They believed that the stars traveling across the night sky were the cows of the Sin or Nanna, the horned moon god.'' The text states,'' The Sumerians also believed in spirits, ghosts, and demons. ( Steele 14)'
Architecture: On page 24 it said ''Ziggurats are huge terrorist platforms made of brick''. The text says ''like the ancient pyramids of central America, Ziggurats formed part of sacred precincts,which were thought to bre the early dwelling places of the gods.'' The text also says '' the Ziggurats themselves had small temples or shrines on top, reached by long stairways'' (Steele 24)
Government: On page 16 it says '' people moved into the cities because these had became the center of government and trade of religious classes.'' The text states '' There were also large numbers of slaves, who were either prisoners or of war or condemned criminals. The text also states'' At the center were temples, towering Ziggurats and luxurious places. (Steele 16)
Art: On page 28 it said '' They made modeling clay into simple pots by the eighth millennium.'' The text also states, using low horizontal looms, women wove cloth from wool then linen, and from the eighth. The text says '' they invented the potter wheel which made pottery production more efficient.'' ( Steele 28 )
Writing: On page 12 it said ''Sumerians created the first writing system. The text says '' They used pictures and symbols to represent things. The text says'' Over the centuries the marks developed into a script that represented sound as well as meaning. Archeologists call this cuneiform writing( Steele 12)

Ancient China
Location: On page 38 it says China is dominated by two great rivers. The Yellow River is in northern China and the Yangzi is located in the south. The Yangzi River provided a water supply for rice cultivation in the warm southern climate. (COTTERELL 38)
Technology: On page 22 it says that the magnetic compass was an ancient Chinese invention. The compasses were first used in town planning to make sure that new houses faced in a direction that was deemed to be in harmony with nature. Later on the compass was used for navigation at sea. (COTTERELL 22)
Art: On page 58 it says China has always been renowned for its exquisite arts and crafts. Chinese bronze,jade,silk,lacquer,and porcelain were prized. After the scholars and peasant farmers, artisans were considered the most important members of society
Commerce (Trade): On page 58 it says that trade flourished under the Mongol, or Yuan, dynasty. The Mongol emperors ruled China from 1279 to 1368 and permitted merchants to trade freely throughout the empire. They controlled the entire length of the Silk Road, a series of trade routes that ran from Northern China across Asia. (COTTERELL 58)
Government: On page 16 it says China's first government started in 221 because they were lead by Zhong. Zhong was the first emperor of the empire. The text states his name used to be Qin but he later changed it to Zhong. (COTTERELL 16)
Writing: On page 11 it says that the people would use an ox bone or a tortoise shell for the oracle bones. They would scorch the bone, read the cracks, and discover answers. The Shang kings used oracle bones in order to speak with their ancestors. (COTTERELL 11)
Religion: On page 12 it says "Confucius believed that the early years of the Zhou dynasty were golden years of social harmony. Confucius to develop a new moral outlook. Confucius believed that life should be based on kindness, respect, and strength of the family. (COTTERELL 12)
