(Steele 14) The Sumerians had believed and worshiped many gods including goddesses. The Sumerians had believed that stars traveling across the dark night were cows of Sins or Nanna. The Sumerians had also believed in spirits like ghosts and even demons.
Architecture
On page 24 it says that there is a lasting platform made from brick. It also looks very similar to the steps from the pyramid in the text. They also built this in a very young age in time in 5000 BCE. (Steele 24)
Art
They had mastered the techniques of art and crafts. They used clay to make their craft and other kinds of different creations. In the text it said that they had been a lot more efficient in 3500BCE than in 8000BCE.
Government
(Steele 10)The Sumerians may have been unique people but something even crazier is the fact that they had their own name for their territory named Ki-en-gir which meant "Land of the civilized lords". The Sumerians had enjoyed and thrived on power and fame through their rulers. Most of the Sumerians claimed rule by the will of the gods they also had to do religious events.
Writing: The Sumerians had developed the first ever writing. But they had used not our writing at first they had used symbols or pictures. In Uruk they had developed around 700 different symbols and pictographs.(Steele 12)
On page 6 it said that Mesopotamia is located in what is today Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and Iran. According to the Greeks Mesopotamia means between the rivers. " Also, the text states that "Mesopotamia included cooler mountainous regions in the north and read-filled wetlands in the southeast." (Steele 6)

Ancient Egypt
Location
On page 8 it said Egyptians live mainly on the banks of the Nile, but also along the canals extending. Over 90% of Egypt was covered in desert, which they call the "Red Land". Every year the Nile would flood leaving behind good silt on their farm lands. (Hart 8)
Architecture
The first pyramid was built in 2650 BCE. They called it a step pyramid. They built to talk to the sun god named Ra. (Hart 20)
Religion
The Egyptians had worshipped many gods as well as goddesses. Each of their gods was mainly represented as animals. Their most worshipped god was the Sun god named Ra. (Hart 24)
Government
Usually didn't have a woman ruling or part of the government. They trained princes to make sure they they were a good pharaoh. The pharaoh that was next often would adopt his heir as a "co-regent. (Hart 10)
Art
Their method of doing arts and crafts was using granulation. They used granulation for their arts and other writings they had made. They mainly used the color gold for their crafts. (Hart 56)
Writing
The people that wrote the hieroglyphics were named scribes. On page 34 it said that they have over 700 different symbols or different signs. In the text it states that it was made complicated on purpose. (Hart 34)

Writing
On page 11 it said "the Shang kings used oracle bones to consult the ancestral spirits." The people would use an ox bone or a tortoiseshell, scorching it until it cracks. They would read the cracks to find the answer, ultimately inscribing it on the bone. (Cotterell pg. 11)

Indus River Valley
Location
location: 5,000 years ago the indus river valley was developed at the indus river alluvial plain. the indus river covers most of modern Pakistan now. "In the 1920s, under layers of land and mounds of dirt, archaeologists discovered the remains of 4,000 year old cities, which existed at the same time as the Egyptians and Mesopotamians."

Government
The government of the Indus River Valley is separated into 4 groups. The untouchables are not even in the hierarchy, They are BELOW it. The highest one is the Brahmin. they are the priests and teachers. while the lowest class is the Sudra. They are the common people, the peasants, and the servants.
