Ancient China
Location: On page 38 is says ¨China is dominated by 2 great rivers. The Yellow River in northern China and the Yangzi in the South. The rivers and the location of the dynasty is surrounded by the northern plains. (Cotterel 38)
Technology: Some of the most common Chinese technology is paper, money, silk, fireworks, kites, umbrellas, gunpowder and chopsticks. Gunpowder helped them in their wars to claim more land. They also made boats equipped with magnetic copis to help them find direction. ( Cotterel 22)
Religion: The religion in ancient china was confucius. On page 12 the text says "It is based on kindness, respect, and strength of the family." The person that created this was Confucius. He was named the uncrowned emperor. (Cotterell 12)
Government: In ancient China they had an emperor/king ruled over the land. These kings sometimes had Nobles, that means the king's closest family or friends would rule part of the land, but the king still got the taxes. This drought turmoil because the nobles always wanted more land and power so they fought each other. (cotterell 16)
Commerce (trade): On page 58 it says "trade flourished under the Mongols." The Mongol emperors ruled from 1279-1368, and permitted merchants to trade freely. They controlled the entire silk road. (Cotterell 58)
Art: On page 56, the text says "*In imperial China, luxury goods formed the manger export commodities such as Chinese bronze, jade, silk, lacquer, and porcelain were prized in China and Europe." They also made weapons that helped the army take over land and made the emperor more money. (Cotterall 56)
Writing: On page 11 it said that ¨ The Shang king used oracle bones to consult the ancestral spirits.¨ Oracle bones were used for religious purposes and answered questions. After being torched the answers were inscribed on the bone or tortoiseshell. (Cotterell 11).
