Ancient Civilization
Mesopotamia steele
Location: On page 6 it said that Mesopotamia is located within the borders of Iraq. "Two great rivers flow southward through the middle east." Mesopotamian is located in between the Tigris and Erartques rivers.
Government:On page 10 it states that they were a city state. "The sumerians own name for tire territory ki-en-gir means means and of civilized lords." In city states there is a city that rules over a certain area.
Art:On page 26 it said that Mesopotamian loved the arts such as poetry and music. "However ordinary people in town and villages would have enjoyed informal music, dance, storytelling, sporting events." The Mesopotamians would often make statues of there leaders and others important figures.
Religion:On page 14 it states that they were polytheistic meaning they have more than one god. "The sumerians also believed in spirits, ghost and demons." They had a maine god marduk.
Architecture:On page 24 the text said that ziggurats are platforms made of mud and brick. "It represented a mountain streching from the earth to the heavens." They were the place of worship each ziggurat had a shrine on top. (Steele 24)
Writing:On page 12 it said that Mesopotamia used a stylus made of cut reeds to make symbols. "As cities arose, people began to require records of ownership, business deals, and government." the cuneiform was translated by henry rawlinson.
Ancient Egypt (hart)
Location: On page it said that ancient egyptians lived on both sides of the nile river. in the text it said "Desert covers more than 90 percent".The year began with the flooding of the nile which brought rich silt to the farm land. (Hart 8)
Religion: On page 24 it states that egyptians had many gods and goddesses which meant they were polytheistic. "Over all the sun god was the dominant deity in Egypt." The cats were a symbol of bastet who helped ripen crops that is why there everywhere in ancient egypt.
Architecture:On page 20 it states that the first egyptian pyramid was built by the Pharaoh Djoser in 2650 bce. "The largest pyramid of them all is the great pyramid of Giza built for king khufu in 2589." Inside the great pyramids was often kept the bodies of kings.
Government: On page 32 it states people such as scribs had better lives over pesantes. "For an example jewelers and metal workers were said to choke on heat from their furnese, and weavers had to put up with cramped conditions." Scribes and other Noblemen had freedom they did not have to pay tax and had something to do year round.
Art:On page 50 It states that egyptians liked to party Which included music they often played flutes and Harpe's. "Music was often played on everyday occasions." Sadly we do not know what their music sounded like.
Writing:On page 34 it states that the egyptians used a complicated array of pictures know as hieroglyphs they ment things. "Hieroglyphs were used on state monuments, temples, tomes, and religions." The reason we are able to read hieroglyphs is because of the rosetta stone.
ancient china
technology: on page 22 and 23 the book says "the first instrument for monitoring earthquakes was invented in AD. 130" this is revolutionary for its time and properly saved many lives. the author also wrote about " by the 10th century, gunpowder was being used to make fireworks and weapons." this shows that they knew how to use gunpowder. in conclusion the chinese were an advanced group of erlay people. source alan hills and geoff brightling
religion: ion page 26 it said that "religious beliefs were divided into the three ways of confucianism, daoism, and buddhism." this shows how the people had many different religions. source alan hills and geoff brightling
art: on page 54 and 55 the text says "the chinese looked on gardens as works of art" this shows that the chinese had many types of art one of them bieging gareding. source alan hills and geoff brightling
writing: on page 11 it said "shang kings used oracle to consult ancestral spirits." in order to find out answers to questions. the ox bone or tortoise shell were used for this task. source alan hills and geoff brightling.
commerce: on page 58 the text book says "The mongol emperors ruled china from 1279 to 1368 and permitted merchants to trade freely throughout there empire" this here shows how the mongols promote trade this eventually stopped and china became isolated. source alan hills and geoff brightling
location: on page 38 the text says " china is dominated by two great rivers, the yellow river in the north and the yangtze in the south." this shows that the people of ancient china stayed by the yellow and yangtze river. source alan hills and geoff brightling
government: on page 6 the text says "the zhou kings maintained the shang practice of ancestor worship and society was organized on feudalism" this quote shows that the chinese had a socitary system. source alan hills and geoff brightling
