Ancient China
Technology: On page 22 it says " Throughout its imperial history, emperors encouraged the development of science and technology, and for centuries China led other nations in these areas." During the middle ages these inventions were spread among the Silk road this led to an enormous impact. Some of the inventions were paper money, silk, and printing. (Cotterrell 22)
Government: On page 16 it says, "in 221 B.C the Chinese Empire was formed." They were led by one leader, which was Zheng. Zheng was the first emperor of the Empire. Zheng created an army of terracotta soldiers that he believed would protect him in the afterlife. (Cotterell 16)
Art: On age 56 the text said that "China has always been renowned for it's exquisite arts and crafts." In China goods formed major export commodities bronze, jade, silk, lacquer, and porcelain. Even Though manufactured decorative objects had sophisticated techniques, they were usually massed produced. (Cotterell 56)
Commerce (trade): On page 40 it said "The main streets were lined with market stalls that sold all kinds of produce." People would also sell cooked food and non cooked food. Also the people would buy special dishes from stallholders and they would take them home to eat with their families. (Cotterell 40)
Religion: On page 12 it says, "This increasing turmoil led Confucius to develop a new moral outlook." He believed families should have good relationships and obey their rulers. Finally, he encouraged ancestor worship.(Cotterell 12)
Writing: On page 11 it said, "The Shange kings used oracle bones to consult the ancestral spirits." In order to find out answers to questions, the ox bone or tortoiseshell was scorched until it cracked. Finally, the answers were inscribed on the oracle bone.(Cotterell 11)
Location: On page 6 it says "From 221 B.C. to A.D. 1912, it was under a single great empire." China has sculptures that hold the empire together. Philosophers also have a big role in holding the empire together. (Cotterrell 6)
