Mesopotamia
Location: On page 6 it said that Mesopotamia is located within the borders of what is today Iraq. Also we know that " Two Great Rivers flow southward through the middle east." Within Mesopotamia, there was a cooler mountain range in the north and wetlands in the southeast. (Steele 6)
Religion: On page 14 it says that the Sumerians worshiped many Gods and Goddesses. The page says "They believed that the stars traveling across the night sky were cows of sin or Nanna, the honored moon God". the Sumerians also believed in ghosts, spirits and demons. Later on Mesopotamian people took up or adapted to the Sumerian Gods. (Steele 14)
Architecture: On page 26 it says Mesopotamia is a ziggurat, a massive terraced platform made from bricks and mud. The word ziggurat is Assyrian and it meant "height". "Ziggurats looked similar to the stepped pyramids of Ancient Egypt, which were used like royal tombs, but served a different purpose." (Steele 24)
Government: On page 10 it says City-State rulers were honored with various titles, such as en (lord) ensi (govern) and lugal (king). The reigns of each dynasty were recorded on clay tablets, also known as a kings list. Sumerian rulers enjoyed great power and fame. (Steele 10)
Art: On page 28 it says the crafts were molded into clay into simple pots by the eighth millennium (BCE). By 3000 BCE metal workers mixed in tin with the copper to produce the tough alloy called bronze. "Anatolia, but son spread to mesopotamia with growth in trade." (Steele 28)
Writing: On page 6 it says People that lived as hunters and nomads did not have written records. So people began to require records of ownership,businesses, deals and the government. "By around 3300 bce the citizens of Uruk pictographs."(Steele 12)
