Mesopotamia
Location: Between the Tigris and Euphrates river. WIth the city-states; Mari, Babylonia, Nippur, Uruk, Lagash, Umma, Nineveh, Nimrud, Ashur.Named 'the Fertile Crescent." With lots of history and people. (Steele 6)
Government: Ancient Mesopotamia had kings, such as; Hammurabi, Naram-sin, Sargon of Akkad, Ur-Nammu. These kings had to perform religious duties to sement themself as a king. Eventually projected as a god. (Steele 10)
Architecture: In Mesopotamia they had 2 main things that they built. These structures are Ziggurats and Temples. Ziggurats are likes stepped pyramids but serve a way different purpose. The text states on page 24 "ziggurats formed part of scared precincts, which were thought to be the earthly dwelling places of gods." (Steele 24)
Writing: Mesopotamians wrote in a type of language called Cuneiforms. They wrote into clay blocks and made etches into the clay This was the 1st writing made and it was very advances for them. On page 12 the says "the citizens of Uruk were using about 700 different symbols." This proves that the writing is advanced by telling us how many symbols they had, 700 is a lot of symbols (Steele 12)
Art: On page 28, its said that they used technology to make their art. Like a weighted a spindel, decorations, a chain of gold links. They used gems and stone for crafts. Steetle 28
Religion: Mesopotamians are polytheistic. Meaning that they believe in multiple gods. Mesopotamia also had kings that placed themselves as a god above his people. Naram-sin is a example of that, a king being projected as a god. (Steele 14

Writing: An example of writing is the oracle bone, which was used by Shang Kings. Individuals would burn the oracle bone, it would crack and answer questions about their ancestors. These were created from Ox bone or Tortoise shells. (Cotterell 11)
