Ancient China
Technology: On page 22 it says "Some of the world's greatest inventions came from China." which shows how important their technology was. Chinese inventors created things like waterwheels, compasses, and early clocks that helped people work and travel more easily. They also built machines such as blast furnaces and seismographs long before other parts of the world had them. (Cotterell 22,23)
Government: The book says that "Zheng took the title First Emperor of Qin to show his supremacy over the kings he had defeated." This shows that ancient China's government was ruled by one powerful leader who controlled the whole empire. Because of this strong leadership, the Chinese people began to see unity as normal. (Cotterell 16)
Art: On page 56 it says "China has always been known for it's exquisite arts and crafts." Things like jade and silk from China were prized in Asia and Europe. Chinese artists in the Yuan dynasty became known for their detailed paintings and fine craftsmanship.(Cotterell 56)
Commerce (Trade): Trading during the Yuan dynasty thrived, with the Silk road serving as the main route. On page 58 it says "Chinese merchants amassed large fortunes by exporting luxury goods such as silk, spices, teas, porcelains, and lacquerware," These are the main things they traded. This trade system helped China connect with many other places and spread new ideas and goods across the empire. (Cotterell 58)
Religion: On page 12 it said "Let the prince be a prince, the minster a minister, the father a father, and a son a son." This was one of Confucius famous quotes. The king was being challenged as the noblemen fought for power and Confucius stepped up. Confucius believed in a loyal, kind, and respectful way and this eventually became a religion. (Cotterell 12)
Writing: On page 11 it said "Shang Kings used oracle bones to consult the ancestral spirits." In order to find out answers to questions, the ox bone or tortoise shell was scorched until it cracked. Finally the answers were inscribed on the oracle bone. (Cotterell 11)
Location: The book says "China is dominated by two great rivers, the Yellow River in northern China, and the Yangzi in the South." This shows that ancient China developed in areas with rich farmland and important waterways. Because of these rivers, early Chinese civilizations had the resources they needed to grow and thrive. (Cotterell 38)

Religion: The vedas is where most of what we know about the Aryans is recorded and most of it consists of religious texts. The religion of the ancient Aryans affected the development of Hinduism since they are pretty similar. I know this because the website says "The religion of the ancient Aryans, known as Brahmanism, was polytheistic and heavily influenced the later development of Hinduism."
