US government branches mind dump
JUDICIARY
this contains the supreme court, this is the highest court in the country and decides the most important bills in the country
this includes things like roe v wade in 1973
Hodges vs oberfgeilds
brown vs board of education 1953
Marbury vs maddison
the supreme court is also partisan because the appointment when there is a vacancy is made by the president and will try to swear in a judge that is lenient to their views
this then leads to what we have in 2025 where there are 6 republican leaning judges and only 3 more liberal judges which allows trump to pass through laws far easier than biden or obama
Dogherty vs stevenson
CONGRESS
It is a bicameral legislature
it contains the House of representatives
the senate
the HOR contains 435 people
senate has 100
it has the power of the purse over the president
it can check the executive but is balanced by the supreme court
they can pigeon hole bills
there is a two party system within the US
the legislative branch also funds the president by making budgets, this can make congress seem more powerful in this area as it allows them to limit the president through what he can do financially for his country
EXECUTIVE
the executive is the president and his cabinet
this includes people like the vice president who is also the head of the senate who has a deciding vote
the president can deploy troops for up to 40 days without congressional apporval
he is the commander in cheif of the amred forces
because of these things the last time a formal declaration of war happened was in 1941 after the pearl harbour bombings
the president has executive orders which allow the executive to make descisions without congressional intervention
the cabinet in the executive is only an advisory committee unlike the uk
there are also things like the waxing and waneing power of the president, this also then leads to the first 100 days of growth in power known as the honeymoon period which most presidents have
