OSMOREGULATION
Urinary system
kidneys
medulla
- inner part
- divided into renal pyrimads
-
-
-
renal pelvis
located at the hilum
- where blood vessels enter/exit the kidneys
- also point of exit to the uterus
-

-
High water content
detected by osmoreceptors in the hypothalamus
CONTROL = hypothalamus
- released isn't ADH to effector
- sends message to pituitary gland to stop secretion
-
detects the change in water potential in blood passes through hypothalamus
- too much water in the blood
Low water content
- STIMULUS being dehydrated (especially after exercise when water has been used for cellular respiration to make ATP)
detected by osmoreceptors in the hypothalamus
CONTROL = hypothalamus
- releases ADH (antidiuretic hormone) to effector
- sends message to pituitary gland to start secretion
-
detects the change in water potential in blood passes through hypothalamus
- not enough water in the blood
