architecture
Xi’an is famous as one of China’s ancient capitals—its architecture spans many dynasties, with strong emphasis on preservation and integration with modern city life.
City Wall of Xi’an: one of the best preserved city walls in China; large circuit, watchtowers, moat, gates.
Bell Tower (Ming dynasty, 1384), Drum Tower (1380). Both in the city center; important historic symbols.
Great Mosque of Xi’an in the Muslim Quarter: built originally in Tang dynasty (742), current form mostly Ming Dynasty. Chinese‑style Islamic architecture.
Giant Wild Goose Pagoda (built 652 AD in Tang dynasty, later rebuilt/renovated), among major religious/heritage sites.
Tang Paradise: a large theme park / garden on the Tang Dynasty theme, combining traditional architectural styles with performance spaces, shows etc.
New districts and cultural exhibition areas (e.g. Louguan Taoism Culture Exhibition Area, Tang Huaqing City) that resurrect, recreate or pay homage to historical architecture.
There is active work on integrating the old city fabric (walls, relics) into urban life —lighting, tourism, preservation.
