      - Increased breathing rate (hyperventilation).
      - Elevated heart rate and cardiac output.
      - Vasodilation in active muscles.
      - Increased hemoglobin production over days/weeks at altitude.
      - Feedback Control:
        
        Chemoreceptors in carotid and aortic bodies detect blood O₂/CO₂, signal brain to adjust ventilation and rate.
        
        Negative feedback maintains steady oxygen levels.
- - - - Hypoxia: Insufficient oxygen; causes fatigue, brain dysfunction, organ damage.
      - Ischemia: Local tissue oxygen deprivation due to restricted blood flow.
      - Hyperoxia: Excess oxygen; rare, but can cause oxidative damage.
      - Diseases: Anemia, COPD, heart failure, respiratory infections.
