Prodromal Stage (1)
Before psychotic symptoms
Slow burn over 5 years
Between late adolescence/adulthood
stress-diathesis
vulnerability to be stressed
progressive negative symptoms
lack of socialness, pleasure, emotions etc
deterioration in personal care
speech becomes vague and rambling
anger outbursts
personality changes
talking to themselves
restlessness
unusual perceptual experiences - hearing things etc (not common)
anti social and withdrawn
light paranoia, unusual perceptual experiences
Acute stage (2)
Hallucinations
Delusions
Psychotic symptoms
Speech issues (incoherent)
schizophrenia at its peak
Residual stage (3)
normally when medications are taken
reduction in positive symptoms but negative symptoms persist
