Mitigation Approaches [Topic 3.3]
Strategies
Low-carbon Technologies
Low-carbon technologies uses lower amounts of GHGs
The uses of low-carbon technologies allow countries to adopt it into industries and consumer goods machinery to reduce GHGs while maintaining its production rate.
However, as the technologies is expensive, some developing countries are not able to receive these technologies due to their ecnomy and political states.
Carbon Capture refers to the capture of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere to be contained and sold as profit
Clean Energy Sources
International Agreements / Cooperations
International agreements are made to ask / demand countries to reduce the use of GHGs and carbon emissions.
Additionally, ask more developed countries to contribute to reducing climate change and help less developed countries by donating funds or / and technologies to implement the policies
Its effectiveness depends, some countries might have not signed these agreements and continues to use fossil fuels. However, most countries would try reducing GHGs by utilizing different strategies that they have implemented nationally
The 2015 Paris Agreement is held so that each country sets it own targets in reducing GHGs
Changes in Consumption Patterns
Protecting Oceans and Forests
Forest Regeneration
Reducing Greenhouse Gases (GHGs)
Challenges
Social
Some people might not know what is climate change and there are difficulties in chaging their opinion in climate change
Institutional
These strategies are not law-binding, hence people could refrain from following these policies, yet would not get punished for it.
Economical
Some developing countries would not have the funds to implement these strategies
Technological
Some countries would not have the technology to build these infrastucture to start these strategies
