Command Line Interfaces
Characteristics: Simple text-based interface on a plain background. Users type commands to perform actions.
Use: Used by some expert users, particularly for tasks like managing and maintaining a network.
Benefits: Much more efficient than GUI's for experienced users, requires much less memory and processing power to run
Drawbacks: Steep Learning Curve, not intuitive at all (requires training)
Menu-Based Interfaces
Characteristics: Presents the user with a menu that contains a list of options. The user navigates through various submenus by choosing the relevant option to perform the function they want.
Use: Used in fast food restaurants, self service kiosks, ATM's etc.
Benefits: Easy to use, user friendly, easily adapted e.g. translating
Drawbacks: Can be frustrating with all of the submenus, time consuming to navigate, could be oversimplified
Adapted Interfaces
Characteristics: Alters its presentation and layout to better support the user or the technology it is running on.

Benefits: Fits user needs, personalized, very flexible
Drawbacks: can be complex and resource-intensive, can lead to a confusing experience
