cognitive development
key principles
-
-
-
-
Vygotsky's sociocultural theory: learning is socially constructed through interaction, culture, language and scaffolding. (zpd) shows what children can do with guidance.
-
classroom examples
piaget theory eg: giving hands on activities (puzzles, experiments)
-
strengths
piagets : Highlights children as active learners, identifies important cognitive milestones, provides clear developmental framework.
vygotsky's : Emphasizes the role of culture, social interaction, and language; supports collaborative learning; applicable to diverse classrooms.
weakness
piaget's :Stages may underestimate children’s abilities; too rigid and ignores cultural/environmental influences.
vygotsky: Less detail on biological factors; may overemphasize adult/peer guidance; not all learning needs scaffolding.
own question
-
Are Piaget’s stages still relevant in the digital age, where children access more information earlier?
own experience
-
vygotsky's : whenever i had difficulties in understanding, the teachers were always there to break down them into parts and scaffold which made it easier for me to understand the concepts.
