BOND ENTHALPY
AMOUNT OF ENERGY REQUIRED TO BREAK ONE MOLE OF BONDS OF A PARTICULAR TYPE BETWEEN 2 ATOMS IN A GASEOUS STATE
RESONANCE STRUCTURE
In chemistry, resonance structures are the different possible Lewis structures of a molecule or ion that differ only in the position of electrons (especially π-electrons and lone pairs), while the positions of atoms remain the same.
➡️ They are used when a single Lewis structure cannot correctly represent the bonding in a molecule.
➡️ The actual structure of the molecule is not any one resonance structure, but a resonance hybrid — an average of all possible resonance structures, which is more stable.
POLARITY
-
The polarity of a bond arises due to the unequal sharing of electrons between two atoms that have different electronegativities.
