Vocabulary
Y-intercept
-
The Y-intercept is where the line or curve meets the y-axis. The x-axis at this point is always 0. For example, the Y-intercept to the line y=x+3 would be 3. The Y-intercept would be the constant of x.
-
Origin (0,0)
The Origin (located at (0,0) is a point at which the Y-axis and X-axis meet. It can be used as a characteristic of a line.

The gradient
-
-
-
A horizontal (flat) line has zero gradient, as it has no steepness (also no ‘rise’).
A vertical line has infinite steepness and its gradient is not defined (also no ‘run’).
Finding the Rule
If the values in the top row are consecutive
(increase by 1 each time), look for a pattern in the values in the bottom row.
The values in the bottom row go up by 2 each time, so the multiplier is 2. Meaning the formula has 2x in it.
(eg. The formula is t = 2r − 1.

Table of values
In order to graph straight lines, we need points.
Substitute the rule into the table. You can use Y (the bottom part of the table) and put random numbers in. Then use the rule and put the numbers into the rule to form X. I would use -1,0,1 as they are simple numbers and it would be easier to understand.
