homeostasis, Refrence to Biozone - Coggle Diagram
homeostasis
-
-
Control centre: processes information, compares to set point, then gives a reasonale response e.g. hypothalamus, pancreas
-
Response: trys to reverses the change, restoring balance.
DEFINITION - a living organisms ability to maintain a stable internal enviroment, keeping factors such as body temp, blood sugar and osmosiac balance relitivly consistent despite external enviromental changes
-
control systems - body temp, blood sugar, osmotic balance, level of blood glucose, levels and balance of respritory gases in tissues
-
FEED BACK SYSTEMS
A feedback system involves a stimulus from one part of the body invoking a response from another part witch acts to alter the original stimulus
Body systems are regulated by feedback systems, they may be POSITIVE AND NEGITIVE
must include words (stimuli, receptor and effector)
-
Maintaining Homeo Stasis
Homeostasis is maintained through a combination of hormonal and nervous mechanisms
- Every day the body must carry out daily tasks from regulating respritory gases to maintaining body temp
Regulating Respiration
Oxygen must be delivered to all cells in the body and carbon dioxide removed.
This is enabled by breathing witch brings in O2 and expels CO2.
Respiratory gases are circulated by the cardio vascular and lymphatic systems.
EG
The Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide production changes with activity level
Capacity for O2 transport depends on the blood haemoglobin
-
Coordination
The body constantly receives stimuli from the environment
(he brain sorts these stimuli into those that require a response and those that do not)
-
Enviro stimuli are recived through the eyes, mouth, skin, nose and ears
KEY FEATURES
Set point - the body aims to stay around 37.5
small fluncutations around set point can be tolerated
EQUILIBRIUM - internal conditions constatly change but stay balanced
We assume that the athlete is in good health, not pregnant, free from any diseases and has no drugs present in their system
EXTERNAL FACTORS
- Exposure to extreme conditions (wind, heat, cold), - Disease or infection, drugs or toxins
