Positive & Negative feedback
Positive feedback loops
"Ampligying situtation for an outcome"
eg --> get hypothermia, get past set point, people begin to TAKE OFF clothes, to speed up death
eg --> when womens baby gets past set point and is ready to be birthed, hormones n whatnot will cause the women to give birth
Negative Feedback loops
To stablisise the body back to normal
Body temp
Blood pressure
Osmotic balance
Level of blood glucose
Level and balance of respiratory gases
"Some variable triggers a counteracting response"
Feedback loops
"Gathering info from the enironment and changing behaviour based on that"
Stimulus
"Change in environment
receptor
"Structure that detects this change"
The receptor sends infor about the stimulus to the control centre, this activates an effector response to counteract the stimulus
HOW HOMEOSTASIS IS MAINTAINED
Receptor --> Detects change and sends a message to the control centre. (a sense organ, eg eyes)
Control centre (Brain and spinal cord) --> Reeceives the message and coordinates a response. Sends an output message to an effector
Effectoer (muscles and glands) --> Responds to the output from the control centre
