        Closely associated with most epithelia.
        
        Contains loosely arranged collagen fibers.
        
        Contains fibroblasts, but most cells are migrants from the vascular system and are associated with the immune system.
        
        Loose CT contains many cell types, and therefore many nuclei of various shapes and sizes.
        
        Dense CT
        
        Contains numerous densely packed collagen fibers for strength.
        
        Cells limited to fibroblasts, and are sparse.
        
        Nuclei are squished and there are few present amongst the collagen bundles.
        
        Specialized CT
        
        Characterized by the specialized nature of their ECMs.
        
        Bone
        
        ECM is mineralized by calcium and phosphate molecules that are associated with collagen fibers.
        
        Cartilage
        
        ECM that contains a large amount of water bound to hyaluronan aggregates.
        
        Blood
        
        ECM in the form of a protein-rich fluid known as plasma.
        
        Muscle Tissue
        
        Characterized by large amounts of actin and myosin contractile proteins in their cytoplasm, and their particular cellular arrangement.
        
        Cardiac Muscle
        
        Cross-striated
        
        Smooth Muscle
        
        Not Cross-striated
        
        Skeletal Muscle
        
        Cross-striated
        
        Epithelium
        
        Covers body surfaces, lines body cavities, forms glands.
        
        Joined by specialized cell-to-cell junctions
