Feb 1920: Hitler launches Nazi Party (Hitler began to take control of German Worker's Party in 1919, and make it more public and accessible, changing the name in 1920. Key points include the dominance of the Aryan race, intense nationalism, anti-Semitic, anti-communist, anti-capitalist and big business, paramilitary and support for the middle class).
Oct 1921: Mussolini forms National Fascist Party (rooted in Italian nationalism and a desire to expand Italian territories. Wanted to resolve class conflict through class collaboration, anti-liberal.
Oct 1922: March on Rome, Mussolini becomes Prime Minister (Muss says in speech fascist party aim is to take over, meanwhile black shirts take strategic points. King refuses to declare state of siege and hands power to Mussolini, who had support for the military, the business class, and the right wing).
1928: Kellogg-Briand Pact (international agreement where signatories promise not to use war to resolve conflict with other signatories, generally mocked, conflicts that were wars were called other names (see Japan and China) and ultimately the pact did not stop the rise of war or militarism).
Feb 1932: World Disarmament Conference Begins (effort by League members and US to actually disarm. Problems: Germany and France wouldn't budge, offensive v defensive, the whole thing just didn't work).
Jan 1933: Hitler appointed Chancellor (appointed by president Hindenburg because: Hindenburg though he could not out maneuver him, ex chancellor Papen worked to get him the position so Papen could be Vice and tame Hitler, Hindenburg petitioned by business leaders, Nazi party disrupting partliament (this was a coalition)).
