What Role do Preventative Actions Play in Enhancing the Wellbeing of the Athletes?
Physical Preperation
- Pre-Screening: assessing the health status before an individuals becomes involves with something.
Eg. training programs, gym memberships, pre-season training will use this to test strength, ability etc.
Physical Health : testing physical environment such as strength, flexibility, agility, speed
Overall Health: testing actual health such as heart or any pre-existing medical contitions.
- Skill and Technique: Looking at the athletes ability, how good their technique is. DO they have the right skill and technique to prepare for something?
- Warm up, Stretching and Cool Down: Static, Dynamic, (Ballistic and PNF stretching not generally used as they can cause damage and injury)
Warm up:
- Allows elasticity of the muscles.
- Gets blood flowing around the body.
Prepare the body for intense physical activity.
- Reduce the risk of injury.
Cool Down:
- Body temp drops to normal level.
- Blood flow slows down.
Heart rate goes back to normal (resting heart rate)
- Reduced lactic acid --> reduced risk of DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness)
