Millions of people lost there jobs and many businesses shut down
The Nazis promised work, bread and hope which made them more popular
After the wall street crash in 1929 Germany's economy collapsed
Fear of communism
Wealthy Germans feared they would lose land, property and businesses if communists took over
Many turned to Hitler who promised to stop communism completely
The depression made communism more appealing to worker which worried the rich people
Nazi propaganda
Josef Goebbels made sure the party looked modern, organised and powerful
Simple slogans like work and bread made there promises easy to understand
The Nazis used posters, rallies and radio to spread there message
Hitler's leadership
He presented himself as a strong leader who could restore Germany
Many Germans compared him against the weak Weimer politicians
Hitler was a charismatic speaker who inspired large crowds
Political deals
Conservative leaders believed they could control Hitler if he became Chancellor
On 30 January 1933 President Hindenburg finally appointed him as Chancellor
By 1932 the Nazis had become the largest party in the Reichstag
