การแปรผันของ DNA sequence ซึ่งมีการเปลี่ยนแปลง Nucleotide หนึ่งตัวจาก Genome ทำให้เกิด Differences ใน Quality and/or Quantity of Gene products

SNP = ตัวชี้ Risk factor
มี allele frequency มากกว่าหรือเท่ากับ 1% population
Mutation = Negative result, ถ้า allele ถูก Prove แปลว่าเป็นโรค
มี allele frequency น้อยกว่าหรือเท่ากับ 1% population

เป็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงของเบส ซึ่งทำให้กรดอะมิโนเปลี่ยนตาม
Nonsense Mutations
การเปลี่ยนแปลงของเบส ทำให้เกิด Stop codon
Missense
Synonymous (silent substitutions)
เป็นการเปลี่ยนแปลงของเบส ซึ่งไม่ทำให้กรดอะมิโนเปลี่ยน
Non-coding region
ทำให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลง/ผลกระทบทาง Gene และ Protein Production และหรือกระบวนการ ซึ่ง เกี่ยวกับ Genetic Disease หรือ การสนองต่อยา
Linked SNPs
ไม่ทำให้เกิดการเปลี่ยนแปลง/ผลกระทบทาง Gene และ Protein Production และหรือกระบวนการ (indirect effects)

ใช้ในการแยกกลุ่มคนจากประชากร โดยการใช้ Bioinformatic เพื่อการ Case Control Study
สามารถใช้ในการ ระบุการรักษาด้วยเฉพาะแต่ละบุคคล
