Decision Making
The ability to make decisions based on different/ changing game situations.
Observation
EG. use of coaching boards > shower players what they want them to do > visual representation
Questioning
EG. Using coach board to show different scenarios and ask players how they could get around the situation > allow players to think for themselves.
Whole-part-whole approach
EG. Individuals learning their specific role > practiced as a whole team > going through the movement > ability to convert into game situation > when do they need to apply this?
Variation
EG. Exploring and rehearsing different strategies related to different situations/ oppositional movements
Creativity
EG. allowing players to make a contribution, come up with ways to beat the opposition, discuss their options
EG. Goal shooter deciding whether to pass the ball to the other shooter if in a better position or shoot it, based on opponents positioning
EG. Defender deciding whether they will go for the intercept or stay in the circle on their own opponent > are they able to make it without contacting? will the pass actually go to the player?
Key Features:
Happens quickly, under pressure
"Reading" the game/ opposition > watching eyes, body language etc.
Can be planned or reactive
Tactical Development
Short-term movements oor adjustments to gain an advantage in the moment
EG. Tennis player targeting opponents back hand
Basketball team switching from man-to-man to zone defence mid game.
Key Features:
Flexible and changes during play.
Can be individual or team-based.
Often reacts to opponents weaknesses > eg. holding shooter = moving around the body more.
Strategic Development
Long-term plan for success in games or over a season
EG. Netball team focusing on fat transitions from defence to attack all season
EG. Football team using a possession style to control the tempo
EG. marathon runner pacing themselves to achieve a PB
Key Features:
Focusing on the bigger picture.
Developed at training and refined over time.
Sets goals and game plans.
