Unit 7 : Microorganisms in the Enviroment - Coggle Diagram
Unit 7 : Microorganisms in the Enviroment
7.2 Food chains and webs
Food chain
Linear sequence of organism.
Follows a single path.
Less flexible, disruption could cause a large impact.
Source
(Sun)
Producers (Any plants)
Example : grass
Consumers (Animals) :
herbivore, carnivore, omnivore
Decomposers
(Microorganisms)
Example : Fungi
Example:
grass -> grasshopper -> bird -> snake
Food web
Complex network of interconnected food chain
Shows multiple feeding relationships
More flexible, alternative food sources exist
Example :
Grass
Grasshopper
bird
snake
eagle
frog
7.1 : Microorganisms
living organisms that only can be seen under a microscope
single-celled
Bacteria (bacterium)
Fungi (fungus)
Protozoa (protozoan)
Commonly found in water
Algae
7.3 Microorganisms and Decay
Decay = rot
organic matter = any substance that is made by living organism
Microorganism decay the organic matter.
7.4 Microorganisms in a food web
Roles of microorganism as a decomposer:
break down dead bodies and animal waste
to avoid heaps of dead plants, dead animals, dung everywhere
to supply soil with nutrients
Decomposers will be at the end of the food chain/food web because they feed on almost every organism after it dies.
