City divided into blocks or grids
Over a period of time, it was an erratic jumble of houses

Made of sun backed bricks
Had flat roofs
Most lived in 1 or 2 room with bathrooms
Rich lived in 3 storied houses, made of stone. Could be 30 rooms with gardens and pools
Average house had kitchen, courtyard and 3 rooms
Royal palaces - High walls and separated from rest of the city
Surrounded by moats
Public Buildings
Temple Districts - better planned
Surrounded by high walls

Tamples were massive structures

Middle - merchants, manufacturers, crafts people
Lower - slaves and prisoners of war
Decline of civilization
Started with collapse of New Kingdom
Repeatedly invaded by - Babylonians, Assyrians, Persians
Finally by Alexander the Great
Ptolemy was the founder of last dynasty
