Your brain
What is it?
The brain is the central organ of the nervous system responsible for controlling bodily functions, processing information, and enabling thought, emotion, and behavior.
What did they do?
The brain directs voluntary muscle movements through the motor cortex and related areas. It sends signals to muscles to perform actions like walking, speaking, and writing.
The brain receives and interprets sensory information from the body, including sight, sound, taste, touch, and smell. Different brain regions like the occipital lobe (vision) and temporal lobe (hearing) specialize in processing these inputs.
Higher cognitive functions such as thinking, problem-solving, memory, attention, and decision-making are managed primarily by the cerebral cortex. These enable humans to plan, learn, and adapt to new situations.
Fun Fact
Although it makes up about 2% of your body weight, the brain uses around 20% of your body’s total energy, mainly to fuel its countless neurons and processes.
