Great depression
Rise in communism
-Many workers felt Weimar Republic had let them down
-Bruning(Chancellor) abused his powers using Article 48 so thy turned to alternative parties like German Communit Party(KPD)
-But rise of communism scared many Germans especially businesses
-So they began to search for alternatives to face communists:Nazi Party
Use of propaganda
-In 1929, Goebbels used propaganda to expoit impacts of Great Depression
-Blamed TOV
-Labelled Weimar Government as selfish
-Promised to rebuild Germany armed forces, create millions of jobs, workers' rights, offered culprits to blame on especially the Jews
-Strongly appealed to Germans
-Potrayed themselves as disciplined and orderly
-SO Nazis impressed Germans and Germans fet that Nazis could help eliminate communists

Night of the Long knives
-Hitler and army commanders were suspicious of Rohm trying to create second German army
-In June 1934, SS men arrested Rohm and leading figures in SA also used to target Hitler's old enemies
-Hitler accused Rohm of treason
-So mass execution of Rohm and other SA leaders
Reichstag Fire
-In 1933, Reichstag building was burnt down by a mentally unstable communist
-Hitler declared fire was beginning of communist uprisig
-He persuaded Hinderburg to give him emergency powers
-They arrested many communists on the night of the fire allowing Nazis to win 52% of the seats in the elections
Life under Nazism
Social Policies
-Jews were main target for Hitler even before WW1 as he felt it was unfair Jews ran successful businesses
-Also blamed Jews thinking they had forced surrender of Germany Army
-In 1935, Nuremberg laws revoked Jews' German citizenship and rights, banned intermarriages, intensified anti-Jewish Propaganda
-Many Jews lost their jobs
Control and Fear
-Goebbels headed propaganda main goal of wanting to win Germans over like holding the Olympics in Berlin
-Ecouraged German nationalism
-Brainwashed Germans stirring anti-communism and anti-Semitism
-Very strict control of what Germans read, heard or watched
-Eliminated Anti-Nazi ideas and made Nazi propaganda cheap while listening to unauthorised staions=harsh penalties
