SCIENCE : from the Latin scientia, meaning “knowledge”
: defined as knowledge about the natural world
INTRODUCTION TO SCIENCE
Science: Application of knowledge and understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on evidence.
In learning science, one must come to understand both
-knowledge
-process (knowledge is established, extended, refined, and revised)
Children and Science
● Early science: emphasises in the formation of attitudes and mastery of science process skills through the investigation of the living world, material world, and physical world including earth and space.
● With early science, we can encourage and teach children
how to discover and wonder about everything in the world around them
Upon completion of learning activities in Early Science, pupils can:
○ enhance their curiosity and interests of the world around them.
○ acquire scientific skills and think creatively and critically.
○ practice scientific attitudes and values.
○ interact and share information as well as solve
problems
