Creating, soring and destroying records. Adults records- 11 years from last treatment
Child records- until the age of 25 or 11 years after the las treatment (whichever is longer)
Keep child records for 25 years and adults for a minimum of 11.
Decon records should be kept for 2 years or following specific guidelines

Data is only used for what is necessary and when it absolutely must be used. Ensure it is only disclosed to the patient or if needed legally
Ensure all records are up to date and checked regularly (Moved house, contact details, GP)
Leaking patient data will loose the patients trust with the practice and damage their relationship with you as they don't feel they can trust you

only share information to other dentists in the practice, referrals, to the patient or legally if needed. However the patient must be aware and give consent to this

Patient have the legal right to have access to their records by the data protection act and the GDPR. they may ask for this to share with another healthcare provider, understanding treatment or checking acuracy
Acknowledge requests, provide a copy, address any concerns the patient may have
Records will show patients full treatment and medical history so needs to be kept up to date. This should be checked and added to on every visit.
