Power through technology
Parlor walls are put inplace for people to constantly be watching in order to discourage indepth thinking. This amount of technology causes people to isolate themselves from others which is another reason why Mildred is so emotionally distant from Montag
Throughout the novel Mildred wears seashell ear buds. When she has these in she seperates herself from her husband, Montag. These uses of technology are purposely put in place so people become numb to society, not allowing them to object.
Montag's entire hunt was televised on TV for all citizens to see on their parlor walls. Not only is this encouraging the use of technology but this is also invoking fear through technology as it shows all civillians what will happen if you decide to rebel -- similair to the 'Wall" in the handmiad's tail where they publically show dead bodies.
The mechanical hound was developed to be a killing and hunting machine, being able to hunt anyone. During Montag's chase, it is mentioned how the Hound is able to tract over 10 000 scents.
