Well known signs of canine stress
Turning body away +/- walking away from stressor
yawning, nose licking
staring/ blinking/ showing whites of eyes/ closing eyes
stiffening, tail lowered or tucked
scratching body/ full body shake
raised hackles
muscle tesnion/ trembling
inappetance for treats or snatching treats
involuntary urination/ deafecation
mounting behaviour
lunging, barking, growling, snapping and biting
Subtle signs of canine stress
sitting close to owers/ pawing owners
turning head away from stressor
staring at an item (e.g. spot on wall)
laying down / raised fore leg/ higher tail carriage
ears back and or flattened
creeping ( slow and deliberate movement)/ crouching
body arching away / rolling over to expose abdomen
shedding hair/ urine marking
increaced sensitivity to other stimuli
panting /excessive salivation/ sweaty paws
biting/ chewing lead or owners clothing
furrowed brows/ raised eyebrows, tightened muzzle
ducking, cowering/ backing away to avoid contact from hands
