Outcome of the battle for merger
PAP won many Singaporeans chose option A - merger with Malaya
Weakening of the Barisan Sosialis -Operation Cold Store was mounted and this further weakened opposition to the ruling Party
Malaysia - Kronfrontasi from Indonesia, Rejection from the Philippines
Brunei pulled out and only Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore joined Malaysia
The roots for separation was sowed - Beginning of the end
Why was there a battle? Who Challenges it?
Who? A group within PAP felt that the terms were unfavorable to the people of Singapore

They were expelled from the PAP after challenging Prime Minister’s Lee’s leadership.
Formed a new party Barisan Sosialis to challenge the merger
Why? Citizenship issue (Federal Nationals and could only vote in Singapore)
Why? Allocation of seats in the Federal government 15 for Singapore (same as Sabah and Sarawak) even though we have a bigger population than them
