Heteronomy
Moral authority comes from a combination of Church, Bible and Reasoning
The apolistsic succession is the grounds for which be the Catholic Church claims to be a source of religious authority when it comes to defining moral principles
The people who first spread the word of Jesus were apostles, who then further created a social institution with a mission. He also said to the apostles 'Whoever hears you, hears me. Whoever rejects you, rejects me'. THat gave them the authority
The apostles then left behind bishops as their successors, creating a succession which is meant to continue to the end of time. They created teachings separate from the Bible, yet meant to aid in its interpretation resulting in tradition which the Church embraces
The second Vatican council says that tradition takes the word of God and hands it to their successors in order to preserve it and explain it
“In composing the sacred books, God chose men and while employed by Him they made use of their powers and abilities, so that with Him acting in them and through them, they, as true authors, consigned to writing everything and only those things which He wanted.”
CORRUPTION WITHIN THE CHURCH DAMAGES ITS REPUTATION AS A MORAL AUTHORITY. The sale of indulgence such as money for atonement of sin, including money to get relatives out of purgatory quicker. Inventing false doctrines purely for the sake of making money
A church can sin as it consists of humans, of whom are all embodied by sin Christ knew this but still wanted them to elad moral authority after his death
Their corruption has become so strong that they must give up their right to authority as they have gone beyond usual human Sin.
BUT WHAT GIVES HUMANS THE RIGHT TO END WHAT JESUS STARTED
DID JESUS EVEN WANT THE CHURCHTO BE ON THE SAME LEVEL AS THE BIBLE

Theonomy
Moral authority comes form God, and only God
Usually a response form the corruption of the church, and had deviated from the bible for their own agenda
Not mentioned in the Bible is that it is th eonly moral source of authority nor do they speak against other texts
The Bible grew out of the church, therefore if the church cannot be trusted the neither can the Bible
-
FLETECHER
Fltcher argues that a liberla approach is needed, as due to issues within translation it cannot be fuilly trusted, therefore the most consistent theme of agape should be followed instead
