SOCIAL INJUSTICES
ethical egoism seems to allow any behaviour that puts actions done out of self-interest over others' interests, so actions otherwise usually unacceptable are morally justified
-
if union of egoists can form a cooperative, it can arrange society so that most benefit from it, regardless of effect it'll have on other ppl
this means while one group are benefitted, other groups are probably put at disadvantage
if it's moral duty for individuals to put themselves before others, there is no reason for anyone to work to protect those at risk of social injustice
A FORM OF BIGOTRY
current society is essentially divided into diff groups, all arguing one group's interests are more important than others
ethical egoism is similar in a sense, dividing society into two groups: 'me' and 'them', 'me' being the priority
usually ethical theories that prioritise one group over another run into moral problems as division is often arbitrary + unsupported by testable differences that give better resources for one group rather than the other
-
however, egoists make arbitrary distinctions by unjustifiably prioritising the self over others, which could ultimately lead to bigotry, as union of egoists put themselves before others, leading to prejudices against those who aren't part
