A 22-year-old woman has presented in the clinic with vaginal discharge and soreness that began one week earlier.
Normal discharge varies with age, hormonal status, and menstrual cycle phase.

Ovulation , Pregnancy, Sexual arousal, Puberty & Menopause, Use of hormonal contraceptives
- Infective Causes (Non-Sexually Transmitted)

Predisposing factors: Diabetes, antibiotics, pregnancy, immunosuppression

Organisms: E. coli, Enterococcus, etc.

- Infective Causes (Sexually Transmitted Infections – STIs)

- Non-Infective Foreign Body Causes
Common Foreign Bodies:Retained tampons,polyp and ectropion, malignancy, fistulae, allergy etc

Management plan will include diagnostic testing and pharmacological therapy for the patient and sexual partners.

For gonorrheal infection, start with first line i.e Inj Ceftriaxone 500mg IM single dose + Tab doxycycline 100mg BD for 7 days
For Chlamydial infection, start with first line i.e Tab Doxycycline 100mg BD for 7 days
Advice patient for strict sexual abstinence until 1 week after completion of treatment and symptom resolution.
Also advice patient to notify her sexual partners of last 60 days to seek diagnostic testing and treatment.
