Star network
A star network is a type of computer network topology where all devices (nodes) are connected to a central hub or switch. This hub acts as the main point of communication, managing data transmission between devices.
-
- Reliability – If one connection fails, the rest of the network remains unaffected.
- Scalability – New devices can be added without disrupting the network.
- Performance – Efficient data transmission since each device has a dedicated connection to the hub.
-
- Single Point of Failure – If the central hub fails, the entire network goes down.
- Higher Cost – Requires more cables and hardware compared to other topologies.

Embedded systems
An embedded system is a specialized computing system designed to perform dedicated functions within a larger device or machine. Unlike general-purpose computers, embedded systems are optimized for specific tasks and often operate in real-time.
-
- Automobiles – Engine control units, airbag systems, and GPS navigation.
- Home Appliances – Microwave ovens, washing machines, and smart thermostats.
- Medical Devices – Pacemakers, MRI machines, and blood pressure monitors.
- Industrial Machines – Robotics, assembly line controllers, and automated sensors.

- 1 + 1 = 10 (which means 0 with a carry of 1)
- 1 + 1 + 1 = 11 (which means 1 with a carry of 1)
Switch
In computer science, a switch can refer to different concepts depending on the context:
- Networking Switch – A hardware device that connects multiple devices in a network and directs data packets efficiently. Unlike hubs, switches forward data only to the intended recipient, improving network performance.
- Programming Switch Statement – A control structure in programming languages like C, Java, and Python that allows a variable to be tested against multiple values, executing different code blocks based on the match.
- Electronic Switch – A circuit component that controls the flow of electricity, turning devices on or off
Wan definition
A Wide Area Network (WAN) is a type of computer network that spans a large geographical area, connecting multiple smaller networks such as Local Area Networks (LANs). WANs are commonly used by businesses, governments, and institutions to link offices, data centers, or remote locations
