Behaviorism
Oldest. Based on response to stimuli, involves drill and repetition. Fallen out of favor because it's based on experiments with animals. Uses clear learning objectives, decomposition of difficult tasks into less complex parts, drill-like practice and recall.
Cognitivism
Sees the brain as a computer, focuses on the processes as to how memories are formed. Includes meta cognition (thinking about how you think) and memory models (like this reflection!).
Constructivism
Learning as an active process, students having knowledge prior to learning, assimilation (new information reinterpreted to fit with existing knowledge) and accommodation (modification of existing knowledge to fit with new information), zone of proximal development and scaffolding (support enabling learning), learning as a combination of processing systems. Includes discovery learning and scaffolding.
