Present simple tense
Meaning
A structure that describes events that occur in everyday life, actually happens in general, and activities that are a certain schedule. In the sentence, there is often a time that tells the frequency of events, such as every day.
Structure and example
Subject + verb (+s, es if subject is singular ) + complement/object.
example : Anna walks to school every day.
We walk to school every day.
Do/Does + subject + v. infinitive + complement/object?
example : Does Jane draw picture twice a week?
Do you draw picture twice a week?
Subject + don’t/doesn’t + v. infinitive + complement/object.
example: Arthur doesn’t go to shopping mall once a month.
I don’t go to shopping mall once a month.
How to use
Describe everyday events and routine activities.
Describe events that are facts or natural and scientific facts.
Describe events that will occur in the manner of a certain schedule, such as a train schedule. Even if it is a future event, it can use present simple.
Present continuous tense
Meaning
Present Continuous or Present Progressive Tense is a Tense that is used to talk about what is happening and is happening in the present.
Structure and example
Subject + is,am,are+verb ing.
example : John is sleeping.
You are sleeping.
Subject + is not(isn’t),am not(I’m not),are not(aren’t) + verb ing.
example : Nana isn’t watching movie.
They aren’t watching movie.
Is,Am,Are + subject + verb ing?
example : Am I dreaming?
Are you dreaming?
How to use
Apply to events that are happening.
Used to talk about events that occur regularly for a long time or happen too often (feeling in a negative way).
Apply to events that will definitely happen in the near future. There are often time instructions.
